In celebration of lives short-lived
In support of young lives hoping to achieve

The Robert Martin Maillet Memorial Fund – Robert’s Fund – was established in 1999, in memory of 14 month old Robert, and his parents Karen and Denis, all of whom perished in the crash of SwissAir Flight 111 off the coast of Peggy’s Cove, Nova Scotia, on September 2, 2998.  Robert’s Fund is  a donor-advised fund of the Baton Rouge Area Foundation (www.braf.org).

Each year, Robert’s uncle, Philip Baker, participates in an ultra athletic event – Robert's Ride – in celebration of the lives of Robert and his parents, in recognition of which you -- our friends and donors --  are asked to make contributions to Robert’s Fund.

Robert’s Ride began in 1999 with Philip’s first bicycle ride from
Baton Rouge – home for Robert and  his parents – to Peggy’s Cove.  For his annual tribute to Robert and his parents in the years that have followed, Philip has made the bicycle ride to Peggy’s Cove with friends joining him on the route, or he competed in an Ironman competition or other ultra-distance event.  (Details about each year’s Robert’s Ride can be found by clicking the link on the menu bar at the top of this page.)

Each year, all moneys donated to Robert’s Fund are gifted to not-for-profit organizations that provide services to children and youth in need, to give them a change for success in their lives.
